Former footballer turned Match of the Day host Gary Lineker took to Twitter on Sunday afternoon to have his say on a young Liverpool player who has generated plenty of column inches and discussions in recent times.
Where Raheem Sterling was once the teenage sensation making waves at Anfield, now the same can be said of 19-year-old Jordon Ibe.
Ibe started for Liverpool against Southampton this weekend, and yet again he impressed, prompting Lineker to tweet a message (and then a correction when he spelt his name wrong).
“Jordon Ibe is a perfect example of how if our young players are good enough they will play first-team football,” Lineker wrote. “And this boy is good.”
Okay, so he actually wrote “Jordan” but he quickly corrected that and the crux of the message is undeniable: Liverpool have another supremely gifted young player on their hands; one they are destined to benefit from for years to come.
Ibe has only made nine senior appearances for Liverpool so far but at this rate that figure will sky-rocket in the next few years.
Unlike too many clubs, Liverpool are not afraid to play their youngsters when they know they are ready, and just like Sterling and Jon Flanagan before him, Ibe is repaying that faith in bucket-loads.
