Leeds defender Sol Bamba has been superb since arriving from Palermo.
Leeds United continued their fine 2015 form with a 1-0 win against high-flying Middlesbrough this weekend. They won the game 1-0 at the Riverside but it was certainly not a comfortable win.
They took an early lead through Alex Mowatt and Boro pushed hard for an equaliser. If it was not for a couple of excellent Leeds performances then it may have been a different story for the team.
Marco Silvestri was excellent in goal and Sol Bamba was superb at the back once again.
The winter loan signing from Palermo has been excellent since arriving at Elland Road. His intelligent and strong defending has already made him a vital member of the Leeds starting XI. In fact, he is even captaining the side at the moment.
He played exceptionally in the game, including the following statistics.
|Outfielder Block||Won Tackle||Interception||Aerial Won||Total Clearance||Appearances||Mins Played|
They show that the Ivorian was like a magnet for the ball. He was winning tackles, intercepting passes and blocking shots and winning the ball in the air.
Most importantly of all he was getting the ball clear. In this game, backs to the wall, Leeds needed to play almost no nonsense at times and Bamba understood when that was necessary - clearing his lines on no fewer than 14 times.
There is certainly a case to suggest that Bamba is Leeds' best signing of the season and already re-establishing himself as one of the league's best centre-backs.
