Tottenham Hotspur won't have to deal with Nemanja Matic in the Capital One Cup final.
An angry reaction from Nemanja Matic has cost him a trip to Wembley.
The Serbian was the victim of a dangerous challenge from Burnley's Ashley Barnes, during Saturday's Premier League clash, and was lucky to escape unhurt.
He was so unscathed in fact that he was able to immediately leap to his feet, full of adrenaline, and push his assailant to the ground.
With Barnes lying on the pitch stunned, and an immediate melee ensuing, Matic had sealed his own fate by failing to keep a calm head.
His red card not only affected the Blues in their 1-1 home draw with Burnley, but it causes him to miss next Sunday's Capital One Cup final.
Matic is a key part of the Chelsea team, having established himself immediately as an automatic choice in midfield after his move from Benfica in January 2014.
The final was his first chance to win silverware in Chelsea colours, and it also would have been his first game played at Wembley.
The suspension is an obvious boost for opponents Tottenham, although among the gloating it was not lost on some fans that when they hammered Chelsea 5-3 last month, it was with Matic in the team.
Here's a look at the reaction on Twitter...
