Tottenham Hotspur winger Nacer Chadli has been reflecting on his side’s 1-1 draw with Fiorentina in the Europa League and looking ahead to their clash with West Ham United on Sunday.
Tottenham have their fingers in a lot of proverbial pies right now, with the Capital One Cup final against Chelsea just a week away, but Chadli highlighted one thing his club needs to do if they want to turn a promising season into a great campaign.
Speaking to Tottenham’s official website, the Belgium international said, “We had a lot of space in the first half against Fiorentina. They played three at the back and we found a lot of one-on-one situations and created a lot of chances, but we have to score more.”
Tottenham certainly have the players to score more goals, with Harry Kane on fire and Christian Eriksen impressing in that regard this season. If the likes of Chadli, Mousa Dembele and Erik Lamela can add more goals to their tallies there is no reason Spurs cannot end the season with a trophy or two.
Chadli has scored nine goals in all competitions this season but more recently he has turned from scorer to provider, producing four assists in his last nine league matches.
Until the goals are more evenly shared among Tottenham’s players, the pressure is always going to be on Kane and – to a lesser extent – Eriksen. But Chadli is saying the right things and manager Mauricio Pochettino will surely be seeking more goals from across the pitch in the vital games to come.
After all, the biggest matches often breed the unlikeliest of heroes.
