Sol Bamba reveals which unique ability is helping Leeds United's defence most

The 30-year-old has been a rock at the back for Leeds.

Sol Bamba has revealed it is his ability to speak both Italian and English that is helping Leeds United's defence most, according to BBC Radio Leeds.

The 30-year-old centre-back has impressed hugely since joining Leeds on loan this January, partnering both Liam Cooper and Giuseppe Bellusci at Elland Road.

Against Middlesbrough on Saturday afternoon, Bamba played alongside Italian Bellusci and that's exactly where his unique skillset came into play.

Indeed, by speaking Italian with Bellusci, goalkeeper Marco Silvestri and co, Bamba can get the best of both worlds at Leeds, as he can still speak the native tongue with the rest of Neil Redfearn's side.

And Redfearn hasn't been shy to ask the 30-year-old to lead his defence thanks to his bilingualism.

The centre-back said: "Lucky enough I can speak with the Italian people and the English people so obviously I'm in between. The manager said I've got a big voice so I try to speak to Bepe and sometimes I forget and speak to the other lads in Italian!

"But that's what they want me to do - to speak to all the team and explain things."

Leeds are on a scintillating run of form but words cannot do justice to just how important Bamba and the rest of their rearguard were against Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium.

The Yorkshire side took the lead as early as possible but spent the majority of the encounter withstanding Middlesbrough pressure.

Luckily, Bamba and co were able to keep a clean sheet against all odds - no doubt helped by the defender's brilliant communication skills.
