Manchester United round-up: Early team news; striker wanted by ‘great clubs’

A select round-up of the latest news relating to Manchester United

Manchester United take on Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium this afternoon with Louis van Gaal’s side knowing they can cut the gap on Manchester City to just two points…at least for a few hours.

United have lost just once in their last 19 matches and for all the comments regarding their current style of play they are on a run that means a top-four finish and a potential FA Cup victory are still very much on the cards.

In early team news, the BBC reports that Michael Carrick is United’s only absentee for today’s match.

Phil Jones is available once more while striker Robin van Persie is also back in contention having missed the recent clash with Preston North End.

In other news, the BBC has published quotes from AS Monaco’s vice-president Vadim Vasilyev regarding United’s on-loan striker Radamel Falcao.

The Colombian has failed to hit the heights since arriving at Old Trafford and in an interview with Football Focus, the Monaco supremo said, “If Manchester United decide not to take up the option at the end of the season, we have interest from other great clubs.

“So I am really not worried for him at all.”

With van Persie available once again and after Falcao’s less than impressive showing last Monday, it would be no surprise if the Colombian was benched for this afternoon’s clash.
