Confirmed: Aston Villa v Stoke City line-ups - Sherwood goes with 4-4-2

Trinity Road Stand - Aston Villa

Here is how Aston Villa and Stoke City will line up for this afternoon’s Premier League match at Villa Park.

Aston Villa starting XI: Guzan; Hutton, Vlaar, Clark, Richardson; Sinclair, Sanchez, Delph, Gil; Agbonlahor, Benteke.

Aston Villa subs: Given, Westwood, Cissokho, Weimann, Cleverley, Bacuna, Okore.

Stoke City starting XI: Begovic; Bardsley, Wollscheid, Wilson, Pieters; Nzonzi, Whelan; Walters, Ireland, Moses; Diouf.

Stoke City subs: Butland; Teixeira, Adam, Shenton, Sidwell, Arnautovic, Crouch.

Tim Sherwood takes charge of his first game as Aston Villa manager today, as they welcome Stoke City to Villa Park this afternoon.

Sherwood, 46, was appointed Villa manager a week ago, returning to football nine months after leaving Tottenham Hotspur.

In his first game since taking over from Paul Lambert, Sherwood has gone with what appears to be a 4-4-2 system, with Scott Sinclair and Carles Gil out wide, and Gabriel Agbonlahor feeding off Christian Benteke in attack.

On the other side, it's Mark Hughes and Stoke City, who have been wildly inconsistent of late with two wins, two draws and two defeats in their last six games.

Hughes has left striker Peter Crouch on the bench despite his fine recent form, with the pacey Mame Biram Diouf up front on his own.
