The Serbian midfielder was sent off against Burnley this afternoon.
Chelsea drew 1-1 with Burnley today, putting a small dent in their title hopes at Stamford Bridge but in honesty it was a game they did not deserve to lose points from.
Chelsea dominated the game until one moment of refereeing madness in a terrible all around performance from Martin Atkinson saw Burnley grab the initiative.
Ashley Barnes put in an awful challenge on Serbian midfielder Nemanja Matic which should have seen a red card come out. It did, for Matic after he reacted poorly to the challenge and pushed the Austrian onto the ground.
Matic should not have reacted in the way he did, but both teams should have been down to ten, rather than just Chelsea.
Matic was, as usual, being superb in the middle of the park before the incident but is now set to miss the Capital One Cup final with Tottenham Hotspur because of his indiscretion.
Matic is a key part of the Chelsea team and will be greatly missed in that final as Chelsea chase silverware.
Here is how Chelsea fans reacted to the red card incident for Matic:
Just seen the tackle on Matic. Can't blame him for being so angry!— Andrew Yee (@andrewyee) February 21, 2015
So out of character from Matic to kick out like that. He was so angry so silly. Gutted he will miss the final next week, big loss.— Tom (@MaestroMourinho) February 21, 2015
Angry with ref today. 2 penalties denied & Burnley player should have seen red for a terrible challenge on Matic. #CampaignAgainstChelsea— james agar (@jarsagar) February 21, 2015
Two stone wall penalties not given, now Matic sent off for reacting to a tackle which should have been a red alone #CampaignAgainstChelsea— Sean Forbes (@seanforbes96) February 21, 2015
2 penalties denied... Matic pushes Barnes for nearly breaking his leg and gets sent off #CampaignAgainstChelsea— Castro (@Rico_VLS) February 21, 2015
