Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino would have been hoping for a more comfortable advantage after the first leg of the Europa League game against Fiorentina last night.
Spurs striker Roberto Soldado scored the team’s only goal of the game, with focus now turning to three important games against West Ham, the return against Fiorentina and then against Chelsea in the League Cup final.
Here are our player ratings for the game last night.
Lloris – 6
Didn’t have much to do over the course of the game. Made the right calls for the majority of the game.
Walker – 7
Looked solid whether he was pressing forward to attack or dropping into his more familiar full-back position.
Fazio – 6
Does what it says on the tin. He carried a big presence around the defence and looked okay.
Vertonghen – 7
His positional play last night looked spot on. He was in the right place at the right time and blocked well.
Davies – 6
Was under a bit of pressure in the second 45 minutes. He may feel as though he could have done more over the course of the game.
Bentaleb – 8
Worked hard throughout the game and set the pace of Tottenham’s midfield play. Always looked busy.
Paulinho – 6
Had a decent game in midfield and has done his chances of more regular appearances under Pochettino no harm at all.
Chadli – 6
Will be disappointed that he didn’t manage to get on the score sheet, but injected pace into the team and looked a real threat.
Eriksen – 6
Quiet when compared to the standards he’s been setting himself in the Premier League this season.
Townsend – 8
Plenty of pace, energy and drive going forward. He gave the Fiorentina defender trying to stop him an awful time. He should stay in the team.
Soldado – 7
Scored a stunning goal with a volley and was his usual hard working self. The strike would have given him great confidence.
