Villa Park Outside

Here we take a look at the players set to be key for Aston Villa when they take on Stoke City this weekend.

Aston Villa take on Stoke City on Saturday with Tim Sherwood looking to build on his success in the FA Cup with a win in his first league match in charge of the Villans.

The former Tottenham Hotspur boss oversaw a 2-1 victory against Leicester City in the FA Cup fifth round last weekend but now the real job begins, with Villa 18th in the table after picking up just 22 points from 25 matches.

Here we take a look at five key players for Villa this weekend:

Christian Benteke

If Villa are to start climbing the table they need to score more goals, so step forward Christian Benteke.

Sherwood rejuvenated Emmanuel Adebayor at White Hart Lane and now he must do the same with the Belgian international who has scored just three goals in 19 appearances this season.

Ron Vlaar

Whatever the future holds for Ron Vlaar he remains an integral part of this Villa side and his experience will be a vital against a Stoke team who have plenty of power and threat from set pieces.

Andreas Weimann

If Villa are to get the best out of Benteke, Andreas Weimann needs to step up.

He will be looking to impress his new boss and this is the perfect chance to do just that, in a Premier League match that could immediately lift the gloom that has rested over Villa Park for far too long.

Tom Cleverley

Against Leicester City, Tom Cleverley finally showed what he can do in a Villa shirt, his second-half performance suggesting Sherwood can do what Paul Lambert could not and get the best out of the Manchester United loanee.

Fabian Delph

This match is likely to be won and lost in the midfield and Delph must impose himself on the game from the outset.

The 25-year-old recently penned a new deal at Villa Park but now he must show just how good he is week in, week out, starting against Stoke.
