'People talk' - John Guidetti responds to those who doubted him

The Celtic forward says he always had the self-belief he would return to goalscoring ways.

John Guidetti has reponded to those who doubted him, according to Celtic's official website.

The Celtic striker netted a late equaliser to earn the Bhoys a dramatic 3-3 draw against Inter Milan in the Europa League last night and thanked the home fans for their 'unbelievable' support.

But Guidetti was also keen to address those who doubted him after his barren run in front of goal.

The 22-year-old Swede made a blistering start to life in Scotland, netting frequently and earning himself an instant reputation as a cult hero at Celtic.

Weeks without a goal followed, though, and doubts began to surface over Guidetti's form.

The forward has started to show sparks of his former self recently, however, and no more so than last night, when he scored the vital goal against Inter and addressed his critics thereafter.

“People talk and people doubted me because I scored a lot in the beginning and I hadn’t scored for a while. Some said I’d lost it but I always improve and work hard in training," the Celtic star said.

"Sometimes my confidence isn’t always there but you’ve got to keep going because it can happen to every striker that sometimes you don’t score.

“I always had the self-belief that I could do it, it was just a matter of time and it was just a beautiful way to score again.”

It'll be all to play for in Italy for Ronny Deila's side next Thursday, who host Hamilton Academical on Sunday afternoon in between the first and second legs of their Europa League last-32 tie.

And it'd be rather useful for Celtic if Guidetti could silence a few more doubters at the San Siro.
