Done deal: Luke Varney joins Ipswich Town on loan, covering for crocked Noel Hunt

Portman Road - Ipswich Town

Noel Hunt is potentially out for the rest of the season and Luke Varney has been brought in as his replacement.

Leeds United have certainly seen plenty of changes in their team recently, especially up front. The club let plenty of players go, whilst plenty have come in. Two of the former are Luke Varney and Noel Hunt.

Hunt left in January. He was released on a free transfer to join Ipswich Town, with whom he had just had a successful loan spell.

Varney on the other hand was not offered a new deal in the summer. He left on a free, joining Blackburn Rovers, with whom he had also just had a successful loan spell.

Neither player truly lit up Elland Road. Hunt never scored and Varney barely did, but that has not stopped one man seeing one as a replacement for the other.

Today saw Ipswich Town boss Mick McCarthy bring Varney in on loan from Blackburn Rovers for an initial one month, with an option to extend until the end of the season. That in itself is not so interesting. But the fact he is replacing Hunt is rather bemusing.

Sky Sports reported earlier today that Hunt's season is over. They claim that Hunt has suffered a knee injury which is going to see him miss the rest of the season for the Tractor Boys.

So Ipswich have replaced one Leeds flop, with another - yet sit nine places and 19 points ahead of Leeds in the table and are battling for promotion.

Something doesn't add up.
