Liverpool managed a 1-0 win against the Turkish side at Anfield last night.
Liverpool claimed a difficult 1-0 win over Turkish outfit Besiktas last night, courtesy of a rather controversial Mario Balotelli penalty.
Much of the the talk before the game was of the return of Demba Ba to Anfield. He scored the goal after Steven Gerrard slipped against Chelsea last season, which seemingly began Liverpool's submission of the title to Manchester City.
Liverpool fans were rightly worried of the ability the former Chelsea, West Ham and Newcastle United man possesses but in the end Ba was not able to repeat his heroics from last April on Merseyside.
But the tie is far from over.
Liverpool will be pleased not to have conceded an away goal but their margin of victory could have been bigger. When you consider Everton thrashed Young Boys 4-1 in Switzerland, there is no doubt which Merseyside club had the better night.
Besiktas' ground is one of the most hostile in Europe and they have already chalked off Spurs at home this season, so will feel confident of turning things around against Liverpool in the second leg next Thursday.
Former Chelsea striker Ba has now called on his fans to make life as difficult as possible for Liverpool next week.
