Former Aston Villa and Liverpool star Stan Collymore has backed Everton striker Romelu Lukaku to be a big success at the club, with his comments in his BleacherReport column.
Lukaku cracked a hat-trick in the first leg of Everton’s Europa League tie against Young Boys, as Roberto Martinez’s team ran out 4-1 winners.
“All the raw ingredients are there for him to be a world-class striker - His comments were just a bit of frustration,” wrote Collymore.
“He will be a resounding success. Everton is the right club for him and he is the right man for Everton. I don't think he should be looking elsewhere to play.”
Lukaku’s performance against Young Boys showed what he’s capable of at the top of his game and why the club invested so heavily to sign him.
The frustration that Collymore talks about has most likely been generated because the striker hasn’t had the best of seasons domestically.
Pressed over his future this morning, his comments might be slightly different because of the confident mood and positive feeling he’ll have today.
It’s now down to Martinez to funnel his momentum towards the Premier League and play a clever game in terms of using it to stress how important he is to the club.
The 21-year-old doesn’t have the same experience as more matured strikers and his sole aim at the moment should be to go all out and score shed loads of goals over the rest of the season.
