Manchester United prospects Will Keane and Jesse Lingard are set to go head-to-head at the iPro Stadium on Saturday after Sheffield Wednesday boss Stuart Gray told club media that Keane would be fit for the trip.
Keane, who has scored one goal in five appearances for Wednesday, was withdrawn from last week’s home game with Brighton at half-time following a knee problem. However, the injury has proven not to be as bad as first feared.
‘’Will [Keane] is fully fut and available for selection on Saturday,’’ Gray told swfc.co.uk
‘’He left after the Brighton game with a brace on his knee but thankfully it was just bruising. He trained on Tuesday and has been fine so he is fine for Derby.’’
The positive injury news on Keane could lead to an interesting Championship clash for United fans on Saturday. The Owls will travel to the iPro Stadium to take on the Rams, who could give United loanee Lingard his league debut.
The 22-year-old followed up a promising debut last weekend by supplying Darren Bent the ball in order to score the all-important equaliser for the Rams as they fought back from 3-1 down to Rotherham United to earn a point.
Steve McClaren praised the youngster’s impact in the game to the Derby official club website and followed the interview up by reiterating just how much of an asset the England Under-21 could be for their title run-in.
In what is a big game for both teams, the two talents will need to ensure they are on their game in order to help their respective loan sides to victory.
Wednesday are currently 11th in the league, 13 points off sixth-placed Norwich City, after going six games without a win. The Rams, who currently sit in third, will be desperate to break back into the top two positions after dropping out following Middlesbrough's draw on Wednesday night.
