Despite a failed winter bid, Roma remain keen on a move for Tottenham Hotspur defender Vlad Chiriches, according to TMW.
Chiriches, 25, moved to Tottenham from Steaua Bucharest in August 2013 for £7 million, and would go on to make 24 total appearances during his first season at the club.
The Romania international has struggled to break into Mauricio Pochettino’s plans this term, however, earning just five starts in the Premier League amid exit rumours, and revealed to Sky Sports back in November that he was far from pleased about his situation.
“I don’t know anything about the links but right now I can’t say that I am very happy at the club because I am not in the team,” he said.
“It’s hard for me but I think I can improve my game and I can play.”
Expected to depart this winter as a result, Roma were in negotiations with Spurs over a deal for Chiriches throughout the transfer window, per the Daily Mail, with the Italian giants keen on a six-month loan with a fixed £4 million permanent switch in the summer.
While the two sides couldn’t agree on fee, TMW report that Rudi Garcia’s side are still keeping close tabs on the centre-back, and will return at the end of the season to make a second attempt to land his services.
Roma have seen their lack of depth at full-back and in central defence exposed in recent months and, with Chiriches’ able to fill either spot, the club see the 30-times capped Romanian becoming a valuable member of a squad aiming to end Juventus’ Serie A dominance.
Fiorentina, who Spurs face in tonight’s Europa League last-32 clash, and Inter Milan are also named as potential suitors, but a move to the Italian capital appears the likeliest scenario at this point in time.
