Report: Newcastle United braced for interest in Ayoze Perez with Manchester City lurking

Ayoze Perez

Manchester City are believed to be interested in signing Newcastle United striker Ayoze Perez.

According to The Telegraph, Manchester City are interested in a summer deal to sign Newcastle United forward Ayoze Perez.

City are aiming for a third Premier League title in four seasons, but are currently lagging seven points behind league leaders Chelsea.

With Stevan Jovetic still struggling to hit his stride in English football, City splashed out a reported £28m on Swansea City striker Wilfried Bony last month.

Manager Manuel Pellegrini still has the likes of Edin Dzeko and Sergio Aguero at his disposal, but appears to be interested in another forward ahead of the summer transfer window.

The Telegraph believe that City are weighing up a summer bid for Newcastle's young Spaniard Perez, who only joined the Magpies from Tenerife last summer.

The 21-year-old has exceeded expectations this season, scoring five goals in 24 appearances and producing a number of impressive displays for Newcastle.

The skillful and energetic forward has unsurprisingly caught the eye of City, who need to start looking to the future given the lack of top youngsters coming through the ranks this season.

Earlier today, Newcastle manager John Carver spoke to the media ahead of the Magpies' clash with City this weekend, and acknowledged City's admiration of Perez, as reported The Shields Gazette.

"After the game when we played down there [at the Etihad Stadium], Manchester City kept talking about how good he was and what they thought of him, so they know he’s going to be a threat, and hopefully he will be," said Carver.

It seems that Newcastle are aware of interest from City in Perez, but it remains to be seen how strong their interest really is - but according to The Telegraph, a summer bid could be in the pipeline.
