Andre Gomes only signed for Valencia in the summer of 2014, but if the Red Devils have their way, he will be turning out at Old Trafford by the start of next season, according to the latest reports from Deporte Valenciano.
United have long been said to have an interest in Nicolas Otamendi, the Argentine central defender who also completed a switch to the Mestalla in 2014.
The Manchester club made an offer for him in the January transfer window, according to the Daily Mail, although they were some way off matching the €50 million release clause in his contract. Valencia have no need to sell, and so it appears as if the only way Otamendi will leave will be due to United matching the release clause.
But a report in Deporte Valenciano suggests that United may re-enter the fray for Otamendi and try and lure Gomes at the same time.
The former Benfica midfielder is just 21 years old, but he is already a twice-capped full Portuguese international, and it is expected that he has a bright future ahead of him. His current contract also contains a €50 million release clause - as with Otamendi - and Deporte Valenciano claims that Valencia want to offer him a new contract with a €150 million clause in it.
Should the midfielder hold off signing a new deal until the summer, United could force through a deal for both targets at €100 million, although, if Gomes does agree a new contract with Valencia, it appears as if they will miss out on the highly-rated Portuguese youngster.
