Jack Cork has explained to the South Wales Evening Post why his team have to be wary against Manchester United defender Luke Shaw this weekend.
Swansea host United as they look to try and repeat their Premier League victory over Louis van Gaal’s side from the first day of the season.
Cork is well placed to offer advice on containing Shaw, as the pair played together at Southampton, and he feels the left-back could give the Swans some real problems this weekend.
“He has got a great future ahead of him. He always stood out for his talent and potential,” said Cork.
“He was always a major threat down the left-hand side, while also being excellent defensively — he was always difficult to get around because he was so quick and strong.”
Shaw is a vital source of width for United because of Angel Di Maria’s tendency to tuck inside off of the left hand flank.
He’s also important for them defensively when they play 3-5-2 because in that system, there is space to be exploited over on the side of the defence.
Shaw is important dropping back alongside United’s back three in that system and if Swansea can take advantage of the space he leaves in behind when he’s forward, they have a good chance of getting a result.
If Cork plays, he won’t be in direct competition with his old teammate but is certainly a good person to have in place to offer some inside information.
