Report: La Liga outfit in FIFA plea over Liverpool-owned prodigy

Spanish side Eibar are still trying to secure a loan deal for Liverpool defender Rafa Paez.

Spanish club Eibar are awaiting FIFA’s decision after their bid to sign Rafa Paez on loan from Liverpool was turned down by the governing body, Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo reports.

The La Liga outfit thought they had secured a deal to take the 19-year-old on loan from the Reds for the rest of the season, confirming the deal on their official club website.

However, after sending off the necessary papers, Eibar were told on behalf of FIFA to address an error in the transfer documents but only after the transfer window had closed.

Despite a few amendments which resolved the problem, the young Spaniard’s loan move to the minnows was subsequently denied because it is illegal to complete deals outside of the window.

It’s a situation which has clearly riled the executives at the Ipurua Municipial Stadium and prompted an official case before a FIFA judge which took place on Monday.

According to Mundo Deportivo, the club are now awaiting the final go-ahead and are hopeful of being able to count on Paez for the remainder of the season.

The Reds’ youngster is currently training with the Eibar first-team squad despite the on-going situation, and following three La Liga losses on the bounce they will be desperate for his assistance.

Paez represented Serie A side Bologna on loan for the first half of this season, but after being restricted to just eight appearances he returned to Anfield in the New Year.
