Manchester United's Wayne Rooney responds to WWE star's taunts on Twitter

Could Manchester United and England's Wayne Rooney swap the World Cup for Wrestlemania?

Wayne Rooney may have upset the wrong person with his apparent dive to win a penalty late in the FA Cup tie at Preston.

WWE wrestler and Preston fan Wade 'Bad News' Barrett called the England captain out on Twitter to joke that if he got his hands on Rooney there would be no simulation.

Incredibly a brazen Rooney decided to respond, joking he would get former wrestling champion Stone Cold Steve Austin to help him out.

That wasn't the end of it, with Barrett challenging Rooney to a tag team match at Wrestlemania, stating he would pick Preston striker Kevin Davies as his partner.

This isn't a match we can see United boss Louis van Gaal signing off on, but it was clearly a proposal veteran striker Kevin Davies fancied being a part of.

The row regarding the way Rooney won the penalty to seal the 3-1 win has continued meanwhile, with The Sun claiming Preston goalkeeper Thorsten Stuckmann had received a post-game apology from the Manchester United striker for taking advantage of his challenge to gain the spot-kick.
