Former Sunderland player Kevin Kilbane has sent a double warning to the club’s current manager Gus Poyet via comments reported in the Chronicle.
“There’s going to be big pressure on Sunderland now, especially with the way things have been going lately,” said Kilbane.
“It’s not a good sign for Sunderland that they’re facing a team bang in form.”
The pressure of playing in front of a lively Sunderland crowd is something that Poyet will already be used to.
However, things will be a little more tense because of the recent defeats at home against QPR in the Premier League and away against Bradford in the FA Cup last weekend.
There is pressure on the manager to get the side playing more effective and entertaining football and it will be interesting to see how he sets the side up.
West Brom go into the game fresh off of thrashing West Ham 4-0 in the FA Cup last weekend.
The Baggies haven’t lost a game since they were beaten by Tottenham at the end of January and that suggests the side will be confident heading into this game.
Tony Pulis is a very experienced manager and he’ll know the precise tactics to use to exploit that tension in the Sunderland side.
If Sunderland can play well, secure three points and move further away from the Premier League’s bottom three that’s the ideal scenario, but it won’t be easy.
