The Daily Mirror has reported that Tottenham Hotspur could face up to nine former Premier League players when they take on Fiorentina in the Europa League tomorrow night.
Micah Richards, Mohamed Salah, Stefan Savic, Marcos Alonso, Alberto Aquilani, David Pizarro, Borja Valero, Alessandro Diamanti and Giuseppe Rossi could all feature against Tottenham and offer their team advice about Spurs, which leaves Mauricio Pochettino with a problem.
Fiorentina are going to have more insight into the way Pochettino likes to set his team up than would be the case with other opponents.
It won’t change much in terms of Tottenham’s likely approach to this game, with the boss likely to stress that smart, sensible and efficient football is the best way for them to get a result, even if the Serie A team have been given fresh insight.
Salah has the most recent experience of having watched Tottenham up close and live, with Micah Richards also well placed to comment on the strengths and qualities of several players currently in the Tottenham squad.
This may be a match where Pochettino gives one or two players a chance to try and rest some of his more important players, which would make things a bit more unpredictable for Fiorentina.
However, the boss may want Tottenham to go all out for a big win in the first leg, which would allow them to make a higher number of changes ahead of the second leg.
The Europa League is a very important competition for Spurs because it represents a way into the Champions League and the team need to be extra alert as Fiorentina could have an extra spring in their step based on the insight of the former Premier League stars.
