A selection of the latest stories in the media involving Liverpool Football Club this Wednesday morning.
Liverpool forward Rickie Lambert has revealed why he stayed at the club, and revealed he was very close to joining Aston Villa on transfer deadline day.
Lambert made the switch to his boyhood club in the summer from Southampton, but Villa made an enquiry about his services, and he came close to making the move to the West Midlands, but he told the Liverpool Echo he couldn't make the move from his boyhood club.
He said: “The deal was agreed, but in the end, there just wasn’t enough time to say ‘yes’ - to make a decision in the space of four or five hours for the next two-and-a-half-years. Not just for me, but for my family as well.
“It was something I just couldn’t do. It was too short notice. It was too big of a decision to make in the short amount of time I had."
Sterling has missed the last two games against Tottenham and Crystal Palace on the domestic front after being substituted late on in the Merseyside derby because of a foot injury.
It's a big call for the Reds either way with a hectic fixture schedule for the Reds. Brendan Rodgers may be inclined to hold Sterling back for the weekend's Premier League trip to Southampton, which could prove crucial in their pursuit of qualifying for next season's Champions League.
