Young BNP Paribas trader dies in U.S. during tragic hike

Sad to report.

A BNP Paribas credit trader died while hiking in extreme cold over the holiday weekend in the mountains of New Hampshire.

Kate Matrosova, 32, a credit trader in New York for French bank BNP Paribas, activated an emergency locator beacon about 3:30 p.m. Sunday, according to local television station WMUR. But rescuers could not pinpoint her exact location fast enough in temperatures that reached 30 degrees below zero with winds of more than 100 miles per hour, according to officials. Her body was eventually found Monday.

"If you are going to hike in this type of weather, you need to be in a more sheltered area, not on an open, exposed ridgeline," Lt. Jim Goss of New Hampshire Fish and Game told WMUR. "There's just no room for error in a place like that."

BNP Paribas said: 'We are deeply saddened by the death of our colleague, Kate Matrosova. Our thoughts are with her family'.
