The England international joins several other names on the injury list.
Everton are in UEFA Europa League action tomorrow night, when they face BSC Young Boys Bern in Switzerland. For Everton, European competition has been a welcome break from some domestic issues this term. While they have faltered in the league, they pounded German high-flyers VfL Wolfsburg twice and topped their group with a game left to play.
Now they face the challenging Swiss outfit and will have to do so with several key members of the squad out injured.
The club's official Twitter account released this statement earlier today, confirming who had not boarded the plane to Switzerland this morning - with some unfortunate names missing the cut.
Some were expected. Steven Pienaar and Leon Osman have been out for a while. Arouna Kone is absent once again - no surprise there either.
Aiden McGeady is also missing. The Irishman has a bruised kneecap and remains out of action. With Aaron Lennon cup-tied, it leaves Everton a little bit light out wide.
The biggest loss is, of course, Leighton Baines. The England international was rumoured to be on the mend for the game, after missing Everton's last two Premier League fixtures with a knee problem. However, he has not travelled and therefore Bryan Oviedo is likely to fill in once again.
Everton will be hoping their left-back is back in time for the Premier League tie with Leicester City on Sunday.
