Italy boss Antonio Conte has criticised two aspects of the current Fiorentina side.
Italy boss Antonio Conte has been quoted by London24 criticising certain aspects of Serie A side Fiorentina.
The Italian team take on Tottenham in the Europa League tomorrow night and Conte has suggested there are two clear weaknesses in Fiorentina’s team.
“Fiorentina’s centre forward is slow and lazy and the full-backs don’t mark up properly,” said Conte.
“I would like to see Fiorentina win, but I think Spurs have the better team and are vastly superior.”
The comments can lead to a prediction over how Tottenham will setup for the game and who will feature for the club in the clash at White Hart Lane.
The comments about Fiorentina’s centre forward suggest that Tottenham’s two centre backs can push the defensive line higher up the pitch.
That would be a dangerous tactic against a team with a quick centre forward who could exploit the space left in behind.
However, whoever Mauricio Pochettino selects to start in central defence can get on top of the striker and force him deeper to go and look for possession.
The comments about the full-backs suggest that Tottenham could excel in wide areas.
That increases the importance for Tottenham of having fast and talented attacking players out wide who can take advantage if the Fiorentina defenders take their eye off the ball.
Andros Townsend and Erik Lamela could start the game and the latter could benefit from drifting inside to get involved in the play centrally, if the full-backs don’t mark up properly as Conte suggests.
Whoever starts for Tottenham, every player has to be on top of his game for the side to take an advantage into the second game in Italy.
