Another Zarate? West Ham fans react on Twitter to signing of Brazilian playmaker Nene

West Ham United have confirmed the arrival of Brazilian playmaker Nene on a free transfer.

West Ham United have moved quickly to secure some more attacking talent after losing Andy Carroll for the rest of the season, with Brazilian Nene arriving at Upton Park.

The 33-year-old playmaker rescinded his contract with Qatari side Al-Gharafa back in January, and has signed a contract at West Ham until the end of the season.

He may not be a target man figure like Carroll, but the former Paris Saint-Germain playmaker is a talented creative force who offers cover behind Stewart Downing at the top of West Ham's diamond formation.

"I am very excited and happy to be here," said Nene on West Ham's official website, as linked above. "I'm proud to come to a really big club like West Ham and I'm going to do my best to help the team. I've been thinking about coming back to Europe for a few months because here the football, the ambience, everything is better."

"It's a really good challenge for me, to come to a competition like the Premier League. It's the most competitive in the world so this is the motivation for me," he added.

Nene has bags of experience having played with Espanyol, Monaco and Paris Saint-German, with the best spell of his career coming with the latter.

The Brazilian hit 36 goals in 79 games for the French giants before moving on to Qatar in 2013, and he's known for his dribbling and close control in the final third.

That makes him an exciting proposition for many Hammers fans despite his age, and fans have been reacting on Twitter ever since the deal was announced.

Some fans were slightly sceptical, comparing Nene to the signing of Mauro Zarate last summer - which proved to be a failure - but most couldn't wait to see Nene in action, even warning Tottenham ahead of their clash this weekend.
