Report: Newcastle still assessing Dummett's knee injury

St James Park

Newcastle United are reportedly still assessing Paul Dummett's knee injury.

The Shields Gazette has reported that Newcastle United defender Paul Dummett is still in pain ahead of the game against Manchester City this weekend.

Newcastle’s squad is stretched in terms of available centre backs for the important league game but Dummett won’t be available after suffering a knock to his knee cap during the draw against Crystal Palace.

Experienced option Steven Taylor has already been out for the rest of the season while a youngster like Remie Streete has been loaned out away from the club, playing for Rangers in the Scottish Championship.

The paper’s report claims that Newcastle’s medical staff are still trying to nail down how severe the injury is.

Only then can a definitive timeline be placed on a return for the Newcastle star and John Carver can plans for having him back in the first team squad.

Until that point, Carver has to find a way of patching up his defensive options to provide cover and allow rotation alongside the key players already in the first team.

There is a very realistic chance of fatigue setting into Newcastle’s defenders if Carver can’t find a way to rotate effectively.
