Mason is enjoying a breakout campaign while Ramsey has seen his season blighted by a number of injuries. But both players have made 18 Premier League appearances to date, and Tottenham fans may be happy to hear that their 23-year-old midfielder is outperforming his Gunners counterpart in some key areas.
Mason had to wait patiently for his chance at White Hart Lane, but it is fair to say he has seized it with both hands and seems unlikely to let it go now, developing a fine partnership with Algerian international Nabil Bentaleb.
|On-target shooting accuracy||Duels won per game||Tackles won per game||Dispossessed per game||Possession lost per game||Appearances|
The Tottenham player may be behind the Arsenal man in terms of league goals scored this season, but Mason actually has a better on-target shooting accuracy – 30 per cent compared with 23 per cent – which suggests that in time the former will start to add plenty more to his tally.
Mason also averages more duels per game and more tackles per game, while he is dispossessed less and – perhaps most importantly – he gives the ball away less times on average per appearance than the Arsenal player.
The duo look like developing a fierce and long-term North London rivalry, with the pair sure to be vital components for their clubs in the seasons to come. But while Ramsey often takes the plaudits for his goal-scoring exploits, Mason is proving to be a fine midfielder in some standout areas.
