A select round-up of the latest news relating to Manchester United

Manchester United avoided becoming the latest top flight side to succumb to lower league opposition in this season’s FA Cup, coming from behind to defeat Preston North End 3-1 at Deepdale on Monday evening.

Goals from Ander Herrera, Marouane Fellaini and Wayne Rooney sealed the win, and ensured a quarter-final tie at Old Trafford against cup holders Arsenal.

Shortly after the match, United manager Louis van Gaal confirmed that striker Robin van Persie would be fit for the upcoming game against Swansea City.

In comments published by the club’s official website, van Gaal said, “Yes, he shall be fit,” giving the club another boost after loanee Radamel Falcao toiled up front with little effect on Monday.

In other news, German newspaper Bild reports that Borussia Dortmund are putting “gentle pressure” on Ilkay Gundogan to sign a new deal with the club.

Marco Reus recently did just that, and the latest report claims Dortmund still hold the advantage despite stories linking the player with a potential move to United.

With a contract that expires in the summer of 2016, it is no surprise Gundogan is wanted to extend that deal sooner rather than later.
