Liverpool media round-up, Ba's Europa League warning, reported Pjanic interest

Anfield Night

A selection of the latest stories involving Liverpool Football Club this Tuesday morning.

Liverpool face Besiktas in the Europa League this week at Anfield in the last 32 stage of the competition, and the Reds face up to an old foe in the form of Demba Ba.

Ba scored the goal which ended up breaking Reds' hearts last season in the Premier League title race as he capitalised on a slip from Steven Gerrard which led to Chelsea winning 2-0 at Anfield in April.

The 29-year-old forward is quoted in the Liverpool Echo, saying: “The atmosphere at Anfield is going to be amazing as it always is. I did my job against Liverpool last season, Gerrard was just unlucky, I did what I had to and hope to do the same this time around."

Liverpool are interested in Roma's Miralem Pjanic as a replacement for outgoing captain Steven Gerrard according to the Daily Mirror.

Manager Brendan Rodgers was photographed in the Italian capital towards the end of last week as the Reds fuelling speculation that he is in the market for players from the Serie A side.

Former Liverpool striker John Aldridge has said he would like to see a front pairing of Daniel Sturridge and Mario Balotelli for Thursday night's clash against Besiktas.

Balotelli and Sturridge played alongside each other for the second half of the weekend's win over Crystal Palace, which saw them seal a home tie in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup against Blackburn Rovers.

In his Liverpool Echo column, Aldridge said: "I’d attack them by playing Mario Balotelli alongside Daniel Sturridge in attack. I think this game, a home game against a team that will be wary of Anfield, is the perfect opportunity to see if that partnership can develop."
