Leeds United’s under-21 side head into the game against Sheffield Wedneday looking to make up ground on the sides ahead of them in the under-21 Professional Development League.
Leeds are four points away from top place in the Northern section of the league, with games in hand over Nottingham Forest and Sheffield Wednesday, with both clubs joint top on 28 points.
This is a really good opportunity for the youngsters and more experienced players on how to impress first team boss Neil Redfearn, who will keep an eye on academy proceedings considering his previous role with the youth teams.
The most impressive area of the under-21 side in the league this season has been their defence, which has conceded just 20 goals; the joint best record in the Northern section along with Sheffield United.
The attack has scored significantly less than the two teams at the top of the table, but then the young Whites have played fewer games.
Redfearn has shown he’s not afraid to reward under-21 players with spots in his first team and some of the players on show will have one eye on the senior side’s game against Middlesbrough this weekend.
