40-capped ex-Spain international mocks Rooney tweet ripping Chelsea star after dive

Former Middlesbrough star Gaizka Mendieta took the chance to highlight Manchester United's Wayne Rooney's seeming hypocrisy regarding Chelsea forward Didier Drogba.

Wayne Rooney helped Manchester United avoid embarrassment against Preston in the FA Cup, scoring a late penalty he won in a 3-1 win.

The way he went down for the penalty has been attracting a lot of criticism however, with The Mail reporting Preston boss Simon Grayson claiming the England captain was not touched.

Whether there was slight contact or not, Rooney certainly went down easily, and one high profile ex-pro took him to task via Twitter, pointing out a tweet the Manchester United star once made concerning Chelsea's Didier Drogba, which suddenly looks quit hypocritical.

Mendieta made his name at Valencia, also playing for Middlesbrough and Barcelona, winning 40 caps for Spain and is now a pundit for SkySports.

He was not the only one to take a dig at Rooney, with former Premier League stars Gary Lineker and Matt Le Tissier also labelling the incident as a dive.

England boss Roy Hodgson however declined to criticise Rooney while as a pundit for the BBC after the game, and it's likely the United captain will not be calling out Didier Drogba next time he falls sharply to the floor either.
