One of Tottenham Hotspur's summer signings has been speaking about the club's supporters.
The French midfielder arrived at White Hart Lane from Montpellier in the summer but despite making 21 appearances for Spurs to date he is yet to nail down a regular starting spot.
The 24-year-old has shown glimpses of what he is capable of although some Tottenham fans have suggested he is too slow to succeed in the Premier League. But as with so many players he should not be judged until he has a full campaign under his belt.
He is proving to be a very adept squad player so far, and there is one thing in particular that has surprised him about English football.
“On my debut at Sunderland I specifically remember the Spurs fans,” Stambouli said.
“I recall looking around and thinking that there were a lot of our supporters there that day. I was pleasantly surprised.”
Tottenham’s continued participation in the Europa League and the Capital One Cup, along with their Premier League duties, means Stambouli is likely to see plenty more football between now and the end of the campaign.
But with the emergence of Ryan Mason and Nabil Bentaleb, and the sheer number of midfielders currently on the books at Tottenham, he may have to make do with a bit-part role for a while yet.
