Seven goals, seven wins; Man City’s reliance on Yaya Toure

The Ivory Coast international has hit the back of the net in seven Premier League games this season, with the side winning when he nets.

Manchester City’s Premier League title defence has taken something of a sideways step over the last month, with a key reason for dropped points clearly the absence of Yaya Toure.

The former Barcelona star is widely regarded as one of the best central midfielders in the English top flight, and has been absent from club duty of late due to African Cup of Nations commitments.

Toure’s influence over Manuel Pellegrini’s side is clear when examining his goalscoring record this season, with the African midfielder scoring some vital goals for his side.

The 31-year-old has netted seven times this season, all in different games. Every time Toure has scored however, City have won.

The powerful midfielder has been on target in games against Sunderland, West Brom, Crystal Palace, Everton, Southampton, Swansea and Aston Villa, with the Etihad Stadium outfit taking a maximum 21 points from these seven clashes.

With City trailing division frontrunners Chelsea by seven points, City fans will be glad to see Toure return to the side’s midfield for upcoming games.
