Son Heung-Min and Bas Dost took centre stage on Saturday, scoring seven goals between them, in Wolfsburg's 5-4 victory over Bayer Leverkusen.

Saturday's top-of-the-table Bundesliga clash between Bayer Leverkusen and Wolfsburg at the BayArena proved to something of an audition for two players linked with Premier League moves in recent times.

A thriller from start to finish, the encounter featured a whopping nine goals with the Wolves coming out on top 5-4.

But despite some thrilling attacking play from both sides, it was the goalscoring efforts of two one-time English top-flight targets that captured the headlines.

Already 3-0 down at half-time against Wolfsburg, Leverkusen rallied in the second half to get the scores back to 4-4 with minutes to spare.

South Korea international Heung Min-Son was the star, netting a hat-trick to help haul the hosts back into the contest.

Already dubbed 'Sonaldo' for his attacking displays in the Bundesliga, first with Hamburg and now at Leverkusen, Son was reportedly attracting interest from the likes of Liverpool, Tottenham and Arsenal among others according to the Daily Star back in December.

Though a January move was always unlikely with Leverkusen chasing a Champions League qualification spot and in the last-16 of the competition this season, many are still predicting a big money summer move for the Asian star.

Valued at around the £20 million mark, Son's hat-trick was ultimately put in the shade by the efforts of Wolfsburg striker Bas Dost.

Back in August of 2014 the 25-year-old Dutchman had looked surplus to requirements at the Volkswagen Arena after scoring just 12 goals in 41 Bundesliga outings over his first two seasons at the club, with Arsenal's Nicklas Bendtner brought in.

The Mirror reported that Newcastle were keen on a deal for Dost while Southampton and Swansea were also thought to be keeping tabs on the striker, despite Wolves chairman Klaus Allofs ruling out an immediate move away from the club.

It has proven to be a shrewd move for Wolfsburg, though it took until after the winter break for Dost to come alive.

Despite featuring just ten times for the Wolves in the German top-flight this term, the Dutchman has managed nine goals with seven of these coming since the Bundesliga reconvened at the end of January.

And while a famous brace in a 4-1 win over Bayern Munich was impressive enough, it was his efforts against Leverkusen that grabbed the headlines over the weekend.

Once a prolific striker and goal poacher in the Eredivisie, where he managed 38 goals in 39 games during his final season in Holland with Heerenveen, Bost looked back to his best at the BayArena this weekend after scoring four times.

Having completed his hat-trick on 63 minutes to seemingly put the Wolves 4-2 up and out of sight, Dost was sharp enough to fight on until the very end even after Leverkusen's fight back.

And so it was that the Dutchman was in the right place at the right time to net the winner with virtually the last kick of the game in the 93rd minute.

With his recent run of form likely to add a few extra million to any potential summer transfer deal, Dost could soon be rivalling Son in the affections of several major Premier League clubs.
