Dutch fans have voted against Tottenham Hotspur being the right club for exciting PSV Eindhoven winger Memphis Depay, Dutch publication De Telegraaf reports.
The 21-year-old had a quiet night by his standards, but his 18-goal haul this season demonstrates his ability and Spurs’ Argentine coach appears to be sold on his intentions to bring him to North London.
According to De Telegraaf, the White Hart Lane outfit are eager to add Depay to their ranks and are willing to offer in excess of €20 million to acquire his services.
With Harry Kane, Mousa Dembele and Christian Eriksen providing the creative spark and goals through the spine of the team, adding a goal scoring threat from out wide is a positive move from Pochettino.
While Depay certainly seems a good fit for Spurs - can the same be said of Spurs being a good move for the player?
In the same report published by De Telegraaf, the publication ran a poll asking Dutch fans whether the top-four hopefuls are a good fit for Depay - an alarming 62% said no.
Depay can be described as a fast, skilful winger with an eye for goal and his record this season only enhances the belief that he has already outgrown the Dutch Eredivisie top flight.
Securing Champions League football for next season, however, could prove vital in Spurs' bid to sign him and the Dutch supporters may feel anything less is a step in the wrong direction.
