Statistic: Why 2015 can be Lionel Messi’s best ever year for Barcelona

The Argentina international has scored more goals this year than he had at the same stage in 2012, where he ended up with 91 strikes.

Lionel Messi has started 2015 like a man with a point to prove, with the diminutive Barcelona star already having scored 11 goals since the turn of the year.

Since being benched for the first match of the year, a shock 1-0 defeat to Real Sociedad, the Argentine has inspired the Camp Nou side to an incredible winning streak.

Messi best year on record was in 2012, where the South American attacker finished the 12 months with an incredible 91 goals.

However, as can be seen above, the four-times Ballon d’Or winner has scored more goals this season than at the same point three years ago.

With Barcelona set to face Levante at Camp Nou today, Messi will look to add to his personal goals tally and help his side close the points gap that rivals Real Madrid have at the top of the La Liga table.

He has also scored in his last nine games at Camp Nou consecutively, which is a personal record for the Barcelona star.
