Report: Manchester City considering 'shock swoop' to land Aaron Cresswell

Manchester City are reportedly interested in signing West Ham United left back Aaron Cresswell.

According to the Daily Mirror, Manchester City are considering a move to sign West Ham United left back Aaron Cresswell this summer.

City are chasing a second successive Premier League title, and a third in the last four seasons - but have a real challenge on their hands due to Chelsea's dominance this season.

Manuel Pellegrini's men lie seven points adrift of the Blues, and the attention may already be turning to how they can strengthen in the summer.

Left back should be a position of keen interest for Pellegrini, considering that neither Gael Clichy or Aleksandar Kolarov have made the position their own in recent seasons.

The likes of Jose Gaya and Layvin Kurzawa of Valencia and Monaco respectively have been touted as potential targets for City, but the Mirror believe they could look closer to home.

West Ham's Aaron Cresswell has made a big impact since arriving from Ipswich Town in the summer, and the 24-year-old has even been talked about as a possible England international - now as a potential Manchester City target.

With one goal and three assists to his name in the Premier League this season, Cresswell has emerged as one of West Ham's top players this term, so it's little surprise to see him linked with a move to a bigger club.

The Liverpudlian may be interested in making a move back up North if City do come calling, and their reported interest is an indication of just how well he's played this season.
