Arsenal have defeated Middlesbrough 2-0 in the FA Cup.
Arsenal are through to the next round of the FA Cup after comfortably overcoming Middlesbrough at The Emirates this afternoon. Boro went into the game with the reigning champions full of confidence. At the top of the Championship and off the back of a giant-killing against Manchester City, they had good reason.
But they were never any match for Arsenal, who dominated the proceedings throughout.
In the end it was Olivier Giroud who stole the show. The Frenchman scored both of his goals in a very short space of time in the first-half as Arsenal rarely looked troubled against Boro and booked themselves a place in the FA Cup quarter finals.
It was also a big game for Arsenal centre back Gabriel. Signed from Villarreal in the most recent transfer window he made his debut in the game. He showed off his pace and composure throughout the game and even got acquainted to English football with a reckless booking.
Another man pleased to be out on the pitch was Wojciech Szczesny. He has become the second choice keeper at Arsenal recently, playing second fiddle to David Ospina. But he got a chance to shine this afternoon.
Overall it was a thoroughly comfortable win and a good day at the office for everyone concerned with Arsenal. They will now be hoping to push on and retain the trophy.
