The England international has been on the sidelines for a number of months, but is closing in on a return to action.

Jack Wilshere has handed Arsenal a boost by returning to training and is seemingly set to be back in first-team contention soon.

The England international has been on the sidelines for a number of months due to an ankle injury; the latest in a long line of ailments for the talented but injury prone playmaker.

Wilshere has posted the following photo on his Instagram account, as he trained alongside Arsenal team-mate Francis Coquelin ahead of the FA Cup clash against Middlesbrough today.

The 23-year-old has only started seven Premier League games this season due to injury, scoring one goal in the process.

The Gunners have had issues in the heart of their team this season, with Mikel Arteta, Abou Diaby and Aaron Ramsey all suffering long-term injuries alongside Wilshere.

Wilshere was recently caught up in a smoking scandal after a photo of him emerged in the press.

The midfielder will not be involved against Middlesbrough today but could well be in contention for upcoming games against Crystal Palace and Monaco.
