The daily newspaper has suggested that both English teams have recently sounded out the former Sevilla midfielder, who has not been an automatic first choice in the Camp Nou starting XI under Luis Enrique.
The report suggests that the Premier League pair were both intrigued following seeing Rakitic substituted in big games and were willing to offer him first-team football week-in, week-out.
However, with the Croat seen as the long-term successor to Xavi, the enquiries were rebuffed by Barcelona and the player is happy to stay at the Catalan side.
Rakitic joined the Camp Nou outfit from Sevilla in the summer for a fee believed to be in the region of €18 million, and has started 15 of Barcelona’s 22 La Liga games this term.
The gifted playmaker is in the running to feature against Levante today as Enrique’s men look to close the gap on La Liga leaders Real Madrid.
