Young Tottenham Hotspur defender Ryan Fredericks has been looking ahead to his loan club Middlesbrough’s FA Cup tie against Arsenal.
The Championship side travel to the Emirates Stadium on Sunday to take on the cup holders in the fifth round of the competition, and they will take plenty of confidence from their fourth round victory against reigning Premier League champions Manchester City.
Speaking to Tottenham’s official website ahead of Boro’s latest encounter, Fredericks said, “It’s a great opportunity to show what we can do.”
The 22-year-old has made 13 appearances for Middlesbrough this season but was recently ruled out for around six weeks due to injury.
Now fit and firing again, the right-back will want to get one over Arsenal both for his current side and his parent-club, and it will be interesting to see just how well he performs knowing Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino is likely to be paying very close attention.
Fredericks is well aware how quickly players can get a chance at White Hart Lane, having seen the progress of the likes of Nabil Bentaleb, Ryan Mason and Harry Kane in recent times.
“It gives all the youngsters at the club a boost,” Fredericks added, “the whole academy, knowing that you will get a chance if you are doing well enough.”
And of course ousting Arsenal from the FA Cup in their own backyard will certainly help…
