Frazier Campbell opened the scoring for Palace this evening.
Liverpool remain in the hunt for an FA Cup triumph, after defeating Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park 2-1. It was a deserved victory with goals from Daniel Sturridge and Mario Balotelli doing the trick for Brendan Rodgers' side.
But it looked, for a moment, that they were in for a very different type of game.
Frazier Campbell grabbed the opening goal for Crystal Palace in the 25th minute after following in on a Dwight Gayle attempt that had been parried by an oncoming Simon Mignolet.
Liverpool were outdone by a long ball over the top, which Martin Skrtel misread, and headed into the path of the oncoming forward.
He explained that the summer signing should have made Emre Can extremely aware of Gayle's presence. He said on Twitter:
Markovic got to scream at Can when Gayle makes that run.— Jamie Carragher (@Carra23) February 14, 2015
Of course while Markovic is indeed partly to blame it is harsh to lay it at his door. The Serbian is still playing out of position as a wing back and is learning the ropes, these things come with experience.
On the other hand, the likes of Skrtel and Mignolet should know better.
