The two teams face off in the Europa League on Thursday.
After a nine day rest Tottenham Hotspur will sink their teeth back into football with a tie against Italian side Fiorentina in the Europa League on Thursday. Spurs, who were knocked out of the FA Cup by Leicester City recently, therefore have plenty of time to prepare for the game - as Mauricio Pochettino looks to take them all the way in Europe's secondary competition.
Of course the Italian side will be no pushovers. La Viola, who are managed by former Fulham cameo Vincenzo Montella, are currently fourth in Serie A ahead of Sampdoria and Lazio. This weekend they take on dangerous mid-table outfit Sassuolo and in his pre-match press conference Montella was raised the question of the Spurs encounter.
His answer, as reported by Goal, suggested that for now, Spurs were on the back-burner. He also made it clear that his side would have no problem getting motivated for such a tie:
"We're not even thinking about Tottenham , we think only to Sassuolo . And that the boys have realized it. And anyway with the British will not be difficult to prepare in terms of mental "
Tottenham certainly have something of an advantage with their lack of a Premier League tie this weekend. While Fiorentina will have to toil away against a tough Sassuolo side the Spurs players are likely to have light training before putting their feet up and enjoying a thoroughly entertaining weekend of sport.
Here's hoping those fresh legs do them good at White Hart Lane on Thursday evening.
