Giulio Donati is a former team-mate of Santon's at Inter.
Newcastle United let plenty of players leave the club on Transfer Deadline day, the majority of them going to Rangers as part of Mike Ashley’s Scottish football branch out. But they also saw Davide Santon leave the club. The versatile full-back returned to former club Inter Milan on loan until the end of the season.
Santon was a regular at Newcastle but suffered with injury problems in the latter stages of his Toon career. He had not started for the club in the Premier League this season and has played just once all campaign, in the FA Cup defeat to Leicester City.
With that in mind his return to Inter seems a wise choice. One person who thinks just that is his former team-mate Giulio Donati. The Bayer Leverkusen defender told Italian paper Il Tirreno this week, as translated by Forza Italian Football:
“I think Santon was right to return to Italy. He had an opportunity, and he took advantage of it after his experience abroad."
Donati and Santon were both team-mates at Inter Milan together. The two full-backs however struggled to maintain a permanent place in the Inter team so decided to head abroad in search of first-team football.
But Santon has now returned from Newcastle United and his ex-team-mate is clearly hoping he can be a hit back in Milan.
