Newcastle United star Moussa Sissoko was asked to select his dream side by French website Foot Mercato and there was a surprise; he didn’t pick any of his Newcastle teammates but did select an Arsenal legend.
Former Manchester United goalkeeper Fabien Barthez was named in between the sticks behind a defence of Cheickh M’Bengue, Lilian Thuram, Sergio Ramos and Philipp Lahm of Bayern Munich.
Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira and Zinedine Zidane head the midfield, with Sissoko also picking himself as the only other player in the middle, with the Brazilian Ronaldo, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi the strikers in the team.
Sky Sports is among the sources to have previously carried quotes from the player, which have suggested that Arsenal is a club of his heart.
Whether he gets the chance to move to the Gunners in the future remains to be seen, but for now Newcastle need him switched on and focused on their push for the top ten in the Premier League over the rest of the season.
One or two of his teammates may ask questions, especially considering M’Bengue was a teammate at Toulouse, which shows he wasn’t afraid to pick old friends when put on the spot.
