Can young striker Daniel Akindayini follow in Harry Kane's footsteps at Tottenham Hotspur?

Harry Kane's incredible season has continued this week, with the striker scoring his 23rd goal of the season in all competitions.

This time last year he probably could not have dreamed of this level of success - and his breakthrough can only serve as inspiration to those around him.

One young talent currently blossoming in the academy is 19-year-old striker Daniel Akindayini.

The teenager scored twice in two minutes in a 3-1 win this week for a Tottenham youth XI against a Fulham team which featured first team centre-back Dan Burn.

Born in Plaistow, east London, but also eligible to feature at international level for Nigeria, Akindayaini has been at Spurs since he was eight years old and has risen through the ranks.

Last season he was the club's top scorer at under-18 level, netting 15 times in 27 games for the club, of which just 20 were starts.

He has since been promoted into the under-21 side, and in 12 games he has scored four goals, providing two assists along the way.

Tottenham's young team are blessed with talent, with John Onomah, Ruben Lameiras and Nathan Oduwa among the prospects hoping to break through.

Nabil Bentaleb and Ryan Mason have like Harry Kane, shown over the past 12 months it can be done, with as well as Onomah, Harry Winks and Dominic Ball have also made first team squads.

Akindayini will be watching Kane's progress with interest, knowing Spurs are light in quality in the striking department, and with Emmanuel Adebayor and Roberto Soldado's poor records calling into question their long-term futures at the club.

The teenager is yet to go out on loan and show what he can do, and it remains to be seen if he will get the opportunity with the Football League window now open.

If he can continue to keep scoring goals, and step it up next season, then Mauricio Pochettino may decided to take notice and give him his big chance to show what he can do.
