Celtic boss's Inter hint: New signings could start Europa League tie

Celtic Champions League

Ronny Deila says Stuart Armstrong and Gary Mackay-Steven could start the huge European clash.

Celtic boss Ronny Deila certainly isn't afraid to throw his new signings in at the deep end, according to the club's official website.

Indeed, January recruits Gary Mackay-Steven and Stuart Armstrong didn't have to wait long for their Celtic debuts, as the duo featured in this week's Scottish Premiership win over Partick Thistle.

But, far from playing in a league they are already well accustomed to, the new Celtic duo could be in line to start the Scottish champions' huge Europa League tie against Inter Milan next week.

The much-anticipated European clash is less than a week away now and coach Deila has revealed that the young duo, 24 and 22 respectively, may well start against the Serie A side.

“They are in the squad and it could be that they will start in the Inter game so they are fighting for a place," he told reporters.

Mackay-Steven and Armstrong both made their Celtic debuts against Partick Thistle on Wednesday night and it was through them that the Bhoys found themselves 2-0 up within half an hour of kick-off.

There is no doubt about the immediate impact made by the young duo, then, and they could be in with a chance of repeating their heroics on one of the grandest stages in European football.

Celtic's first leg against Inter will be at home, while the second leg is to be played in Italy.
